PRIMARY MOMENTS

There’s been a lot of great and informative discussion as well as concerns voiced through our community recently. One method of communication we encourage you to use is your PAC reps :). Part of PAC’s role is to be a neutral conduit, sharing information between parents and the schools. If you have confidential concerns/thoughts, your privacy is paramount to our committee too. Feel free to reach out to any of your PAC reps, and/or the Primary PAC Chair. We are here to help.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MINUTES

It’s hard to believe it’s already October! Our magazine sale wrapped up last month. A big thank you to all the students who sold magazines and to our volunteers as well. The funds raised will help decrease the cost of the 6th grade Camp Kern trip and the 8th grade Philadelphia trip. We sold about $45,000 worth of magazines, resulting in about $22,000 in profits to PSA! And it’s not too late to order online – order anytime with code WB3027.

Parent volunteers are needed to help with the Middle School Book Booth at the October 7th Fall Festival. If you can help, please sign up today. Volunteers will commit to working a two hour shift in which you would greet customers and organize and sell books. It’s a great way to meet other Wyoming families.

Upcoming Events:

  • Grades 7-12 Strings Concert | October 9th at 7:30 pm @ WHS Pendery Center
  • WMS Picture Retake Day | October 13

HIGH SCHOOL HAPPENINGS

SENIORS, CLASS OF 2018

First word of the month…HOMECOMING! The saws are buzzing, hammers pounding, and tissue paper “pomping!” Our kids have come a long way since the giant Sonic head of freshman year. We owe the Moore family a huge thank you for letting us take over their yard and garage for the last 4 years.

Remember to download the “Guide to Senior Year” for information on all of the year’s events.

Now time to cut to the chase, the next couple of months are very busy!

Upcoming Events:

  • Homecoming Week: October 2-5
Supply donations and food may still be needed as we have a strict budget as part of the school homecoming rules.
  • Homecoming Parade: October 6, 6pm down the Pike
  • Homecoming Dance: October 7 at WHS, 8-10pm
  • College Application Help Session: October 26
  • Final Payment Senior DC Trip: October 13
  • Senior Trip Parent Meeting: November 1 @ 5:30 pm in WHS cafeteria

Senior Snacks:

November also brings another opportunity to help. Kim Stewart and Tara Abrams will be sending out more information as the month draws closer about the senior snack bags for the Washington D.C. trip.

Senior Slide Show:

Time to start looking for those awesome pictures for the senior celebration in May. Laura Bence is collecting photos (digital or print). Please see attached flyer for information. The deadline is January 31, 2018.

Communication:

We will be communicating through our class email. If you haven’t signed up, please contact the account and you will be added.

FRESHMAN, CLASS OF 2021

Food & Volunteers:

Sign up to provide food and drink to keep all the students energized while they work on the floats. This is also where we need chaperones and some building supervisors. There are a few spots still available. The cost to supply dinners to all of the students is a large and generous donation by some parents. We are suggesting a $3 donation each dinner session students are at the parade build to offset some of those costs. Please note that no student will be turned away if they don’t have a donation.

Gift Cards:

Gift cards to local restaurants like LaRosa’s or Little Caesar’s help with float building dinners.  We have only the roughest guess of how many students will attend. Gift cards to Lowes or Menards will be used for float supplies. Cash works as well. If you can’t volunteer time, consider volunteering donations for float activity.

Float Supplies:

We are in dire need of supplies and they have a small budget to build. We’ve all seen these amazing floats and $300 doesn’t make that happen. No need to purchase supplies if you have them lying around in the garage – paint, wood, etc. The students have provided us with a list of needed items – please sign up if you can contribute.

Important Events:

Float Building

Monday, October 2 through Thursday, October 5 – Immediately after school through 10pm

Students may come and go as they please but must be working if on the build site.

Float Inspection

Friday, October 6 | 5:30pm

Float inspection followed by the parade starting at 6pm. That’s the extent of our knowledge but we will fill students in if there are any other particulars. Parade is followed by the football game.

Homecoming Dance

Saturday, October 7 | 8-10pm

Tickets ($10 each) are on sale now at lunch through most of next week. Want to be a chaperone at the dance? They are looking for help from 7:30-10:45. Please let your PAC Reps know ASAP if you are able to assist.

Food Allergies:

If you student has food allergies, be aware that none of the food falls into the general “safe foods” list as this isn’t an in-school sanctioned event. With that being said, please reach out so we can arrange snacks and meals if needed. We want everyone to be well fed and watered for all their efforts.

Thanks!

We can’t thank you enough for the support you are giving to the students whether you are volunteering or loaning hammers. We KNOW we have really tapped you a ton here and we appreciate your willingness to give. Besides getting some volunteer help doing concessions at basketball games, we promise this is the largest amount of needs we have…until next year. 😉

Go Cowboys!

Green Team

For the first time since 2009, our elementary schools have been recognized as “Recycling Schools” by Hamilton County Recycling & Solid Waste District! In September, primary students had a special assembly to learn about what can be recycled in classrooms and in the lunchroom. Our teachers are helping students learn what can and cannot be recycled–and the adults are learning too. Many items that adults regularly toss into the recycling (like yogurt cups) are not actually recyclable locally.

The primary schools will be hosting FOUR Zero Waste Lunches this year, in an effort to encourage our students to reduce packaging and food waste. The first primary Zero Waste Lunch Day will be October 13! More information will be sent home soon!

To help with this and other initiatives at all our schools, please join us for the next Green Team meeting, October 24, 7 PM at the Middle School’s Marty Family Alumni Conference Room. If you have questions or ideas for the Green Team, please email Sarah Stankorb Taylor.

Winter Enrichment Program – Save The Date

Planning for the 2018 WWEP program is underway. The program will include two 4-week sessions of Saturday morning classes (9:30-10:45) held at Vermont school. Session 1 will be on Saturday mornings between January 13 and February 3; Session 2 will be between February 10 and March 3. Participation is open to students in grades K-4. Registration will open in late November, after Thanksgiving.

WWEP will offer a variety of hands-on learning experiences. Past favorites have included: creative cupcakes, martial arts, hip hop dancing, ceramics, and computer programming. For 2018, we’re looking into adding circus, slime, jewelry, and yoga classes. If you have questions, please email Jackie Barnes.

PSA Membership

Thank you to all families who bought a PSA membership and student directory. The final touches are being put on the directory and we hope to have it back from the printer and distributed in mid October. Congratulations to Sarah Schaen, who submitted the winning cover artwork!

Wyoming Youth Services

The 17th Annual Wyoming Youth Services Howling Pooch Parade will be held on Sunday, October 22nd at 1pm at the Wyoming Civic Center. Register your pooch for this fun family-friendly event by 10/20. All proceeds benefit Wyoming Youth Services.
